INTERVIEW: Laurien Dominique
This is the real Laurien Dominique talking with CAV about her real life and loves and lust.
Laurien Dominique is a lovely blonde actress from Illinois. Although Illinois is known for coal miners; where men enter the sweltering, torrid, thick tunnels in search of the shiny mineral that heats up millions of people, Laurien, upon making films, became a more sultry and luscious source of warmth. She can really heat you up! Her fans love her because of her believability in roles, and her poised beauty. In this interview, she shares with us her turn-ons that make her sizzle. She has a fascination with gay men. Or should we say a passion for them. she enjoys showing them what a real woman is made of. And that their raison-d’etre can no longer be filling until they taste the fruits her labor! She’s also an artist and especially likes to draw women in an erotic form. she’s not only well-rounded in talent, she’s also well-rounded in her taste for the sexual delights in life… She is a resident of San Francisco these days. Living there is especially nice for her, since that town-with-the-trolleys became the gay capital of the country. But she makes the best of that too! Someday that town will have another tourist attraction: Laurien Dominique‘s film productions! Hollywood – look out!
CAV: What was your first movie?
LAURIEN: My first one was called Hard Soap, which was a comedy. It was a take off on Mary Hartman – Mary Hartman, when that TV show was real popular. I liked doing a comedy because it was nice to be able to laugh about sex and not take it so seriously.
CAV: Who did the movie?
LAURIEN: Damon Christian and Bob Cher.
CAV: What movie did you make after Hard Soap?
LAURIEN: “V – The Hot One”
CAV: These go back quite a ways, don’t they?
LAURIEN: Yes, I started in ’76. And most of my career was in the late seventies. I averaged one film a year, or two at a time.
CAV: How many movies have you made?
LAURIEN: About 12.
CAV: And after “V: The Hot One“, what film did you do?
: The Women in Love, two years ago.
CAV: Oh, I remember that one.
LAURIEN: The latest one is called Beauty. I haven’t seen it yet.
CAV: What do you do in Beauty?
LAURIEN: I’m the one wrapped in tape and also one of the sisters.
CAV: Oh, those are great shots…
LAURIEN: They had tape on me, and I was crawling around on a dining room table, and…
CAV: They were unwrapping you.
LAURIEN: Yes, in white masking tape. But the heat was so intense that the tape wouldn’t stick very well. Those are the kinds of things that most of us do with our evenings… (laughter)
CAV: Why do you make so few movies?
LAURIEN: I like to give myself breaks. I want to also take things that I really like, that offer some challenge to me acting-wise.
CAV: What are your favorite films?
LAURIEN: Hard Soap and Ecstasy Girls. I had a real good scene and a role in that one, with John Leslie on a hammock.
CAV: Well, did you have a good time?
LAURIEN Yes, but it was difficult. It was a hard scene to do because he was on one side coming up, and I was on the other side, through the hammock… it was tricky. Also, I made a movie with John Holmes which was called J.H. Superstar.
CAV: You actually subjected yourself to his “weapon”?
LAURIEN: John is a sweetheart. You can quote me on that. He’s very, very gentle. He always knows how far to go.
CAV: How far in did it go?
LAURIEN: I don’t remember, actually. I know it looks visually impossible, but it isn’t really… But you know, sometimes I wonder why men want to see women being fucked by big cocks…
CAV: I think men enjoy watching those kind of scenes because it looks like it hurts. I think that’s why they like to see girls they can’t have getting hurt by it. Their insatiability drives them to something that must be painful. Men and women are both like that, too.
LAURIEN: Yeah, like Catherine the Great. (laughter)
CAV: (laughter) Exactly. But I heard you went through a little bit of pain… Is that true?
LAURIEN: No, who told you that? (laughter)
CAV: Well, are you into pain?
LAURIEN: I’m into light bondage, but only if it’s not painful. I can say that much. I like to pretend more than the actual physical reality of being tied up.
CAV: So, you wouldn’t want to be tied up where you actually can’t get out?
LAURIEN: No, I wouldn’t. I’m not really into bondage, and that’s about it…
CAV: What about Jamie Gillis? What do you think about him? He’s into pain.
LAURIEN: I think he is a true sadist and masochist. I worked with him once. I think he is a very good actor, but he’s definitely cruel.
CAV: Are where are you presently living, in San Francisco, right?
LAURIEN: Yes, I have lived there for 10 years.
CAV: And where are you originally from?
LAURIEN: Illinois.
CAV: Oh, you’re a “Coal miner’s daughter” right? (laughter)
LAURIEN: Right. The only things to do there are work in the coal mines or in the comic book factory, which is the largest one in the world.
CAV: Did you work in the factory?
LAURIEN: No, my parents met there.
CAV: Your parents met there???
LAURIEN: Uh oh, I think I am going to get into trouble! (laughter) My father went in for a job and she was the receptionist, and instead of the job he got a date with my mother, and the rest is history.
CAV: Does anybody back home know what you do?
LAURIEN: My cousin knows. And as a matter of fact, my mother just saw me in a St. Louis paper, in an ad for The Women in Love and she recognized me.
CAV: And was this a revelation to her?
LAURIEN: Yes, it was. She also saw me recently in a magazine picture with another actor, and I happened to be wearing cock rings on my wrists, the leather kind with studs. She called up and said, “MY boy friend said that man’s into S&M… is that true?” And that was the first time I heard my mother talk about my work. It was also the first time that she’d seen pictures too. She didn’t worry about the nude shots. She worried about the S&M. She thought I was into that. I had to tell her that she shouldn’t worry. It was all for effect. She is really a very nice lady.
CAV: Do you like to live dangerously?
LAURIEN: I like adventure. I like to travel.
CAV: Would you like to have sexual adventures in foreign countries?
LAURIEN: Oh yes! I still have to go to Europe. I’ve made it in Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean. but I’ve never made it in Europe. That’s my next stop, I hope. And I don’t always care if I don’t get back right away. I like to sort of let things happen.
CAV: What about sex on public transportation?
LAURIEN: Yes, whenever I can!
CAV: Really? Trains? Planes?
LAURIEN: Trains. I haven’t made it on a plane yet.
CAV: Buses?
LAURIEN: Yeah, once on a bus. But, you know, you can get into trouble with the law these days… But I’m into open spaces definitely.
CAV: What about deserts and beaches?
LAURIEN: Yes, yes, and forests too. I love nature. I once lived naked in a jungle for a year in Kuaii, when I was 16.
CAV: Are you kidding? Come on…
LAURIEN: No, I am serious. It was a rain forest actually in Kuaii, Hawaii.
CAV: How long did you live there?
LAURIEN: For a year.
CAV: Weren’t there people around?
LAURIEN: There were about six of us who lived in this valley.
CAV: Was it like a commune?
LAURIEN: No, they were pretty much to themselves. It was a national rain forest. You just had to watch out for the rangers who came through once a year to check for permits.
CAV: How did that affect your sexuality?
LAURIEN: Wonderfully. When people don’t wear clothes, they lose a lot of defenses, and they can be much more honest. It does something to your psyche in a very healthy way.
CAV: Were they messing around with each other at all?
LAURIEN: No, it was all very polite. You’re more polite without your clothes on than you are with them on.
CAV: Were there any hard-ons in view? (laughter)
LAURIEN: There was one guy that we had to cover up all the time. (laughter) He was funny. He used to stand on the rocks and pose. He looked like a viking in the jungle. But we called him the “blond Tarzan”.
CAV: Sounds good, but I think it would be hard to live naked for a year among people of the opposite sex and not do anything!
LAURIEN: But people really respected each other in the forest.
CAV: But, could a person last in a community, isolated from everything, and not have sex?
LAURIEN: Well, we weren’t really a community. We didn’t see anybody that much. So you get used to not having contact of any kind. Besides, I was only 16…
CAV: You were mostly by yourself?
LAURIEN: Yes, but I did stay with another girl sometimes.
CAV: Why did you stay so long?
LAURIEN: Because I liked it. It was real nice and it was a real good spiritual exercise. I’m really spiritual.
CAV: Do you belong to any particular sect of spirituality?
LAURIEN: Not really, it’s my own. I’m not part of any organized religion.
CAV: Do you have a boyfriend?
LAURIEN: Yes, I do have a boyfriend.
CAV: Do you have a girlfriend?
LAURIENNE: No, but my boyfriend has boyfriends.
CAV: Does he bring them home?
LAURIEN: He has twice.
CAV: And he shares them with you?
LAURIEN: Yeah. (giggles)
CAV: Do you like that?
LAURIEN: Yes, but I’m very particular.
CAV: Who does most of the work when you’re working on another boy?
LAURIEN: He does, he’s wonderful that way.
CAV: You knew your boyfriend was bisexual when you met him?
LAURIEN: I knew he was gay.
CAV: Oh, he was gay when you met him.
LAURIEN: RIGHT!
CAV: And you broke him in. (laughter)
LAURIEN: RIGHT!
CAV: Was that a good challenge?
LAURIEN: It’s been something that’s happened to me for years. I’ve always been more attracted to gay men.
CAV: Do you have any advice for women or fag hags or both, about how to initiate this?
LAURIEN: Nope. You’ve got to be born with the talent.
CAV: Was he amazed that he could change over?
LAURIEN: No, not really.
CAV: Oh, he was just waiting for “the right girl” to come along.
LAURIEN: Yes, I hope so. (laughter)
CAV: Is it important to be able to give a really good blowjob to convert a gay man?
LAURIEN: No, absolutely not.
CAV: Is it important to take it up the ass?
LAURIEN: No, I am still a virgin there.
CAV: He’s never made a mistake in the middle of the night and thought you were another gay man?
LAURIEN: No, I am real strict about that. He’s asked, but I just haven’t let him in yet…
CAV: This is not your first gay boyfriend…
LAURIEN: No…
CAV: I suppose that when you live in San Francisco, that is an occupation hazard.
LAURIEN: Yes, I prefer gay boyfriends.
CAV: Why is that?
LAURIEN: They are more gentle. They are usually more creative.
CAV: Do they know how to eat pussy?
LAURIEN: Yes, they’re better. They’re more relaxed about sex in general.
CAV: Do they have more feminine intuition?
LAURIEN: They’re more orally inclined. And they have more feminine intuition, too.
CAV: Do you think that’s because they’ve had to overcome a lot of cultural conditioning?
LAURIEN: Yes, that has a lot to do with it. They are just more liberal in general.
CAV: Do you pick these guys up because you like being the only woman in their lives?
LAURIEN: It seems that way sometimes. But I really don’t pick them up because of that. It just so happens that I usually fall in love with them, not knowing that they’re gay. I find out later.
CAV: So, you don’t go after them because they’re pretty…
LAURIEN: No, I used to be into that. About three years ago, I liked “Prince Charming” types. Now, that’s not so important anymore. Now, it’s the quality of the relationship that matters.
CAV: Have you had any relationships with different actors?
LAURIEN: No, not really. I’ve worked with Paul Thomas about six times. I like him a lot. He’s one of my favorites.
CAV: Did you ever bring women home?
LAURIEN: I have a couple of times in the past. I’ve been a bisexual. But I’m very particular about women. They have to be very pretty.
CAV: Have you done bisexual scenes in films?
LAURIEN: No, I’d like to be able to. Unfortunately, you can’t mix the two. For the past three films, I’ve been cast as a lesbian. I don’t know why. I don’t think I look that way… It’s true!
CAV: But you have been in threesomes with two other girls in real life, too.
LAURIEN: Yeah, I am usually the dominant one.
CAV: Do you remember the first time?
LAURIEN: Yeah, it was with an established lesbian who was a good friend, and she wanted to please me. I ended up pleasing her instead, out of choice. It just happened that way. The first time I actually came with a woman wasn’t until the third or fourth time. And then it was wonderful.
CAV: Do you remember the first time with a man?
LAURIEN: Yes, I was 15 and he was 24. He was my art director in a theater I worked in, and I was very attracted to him. I picked him out myself because he was the cutest.
CAV: And what did you do on this momentous night?
LAURIEN: We went to a Chuck Berry concert. Then we came back home, took a very long soapy bath, with champagne and candle lights, and played chess in the nude. After that, we tried to have sex, but he couldn’t… well… it didn’t work. I was too tight. Plus he didn’t want to hurt me.
CAV: He knew all along he was the first.
LAURIEN: No, he didn’t.
CAV: He didn’t? When did you tell him?
LAURIEN: Later. But what happened was the next morning, I was so mad after such a nice build-up, I jumped on him while he was asleep, and he had an erection. It went right in.
CAV: Great story!
LAURIEN: No lubrication. No foreplay. No problems. Then I told him and that was my de-virginization experience.
CAV: What do you think is your basic strength as a porno performer?
LAURIEN: Good acting. I had one review for Ecstasy Girls once, that said that I was one of the few actresses in porn, or TV, or movies, for that matter, that looked like I would be just as much fun to be with out of bed.
CAV: Well, between being in bed or out of bed with you, I’d rather be in bed with you…
LAURIEN: (giggles) That really was my favorite review. I really think I’m real on film. I’m human.
CAV: Do you feel the sex when you’re filming or do you feel the role?
LAURIEN: Both. It depends on the actor usually. Sometimes, it can be very technical. So you don’t have a chance to let yourself go.
CAV: Do you play around with the actor to warm up a scene?
LAURIEN: Sure.
CAV: Do you approach him first?
LAURIEN: Sometimes.
CAV: Do you remember any incidents where the warm-up for a scene was particularly enjoyable?
LAURIEN: Not the warm-up for a scene so much as the actual on-camera work. It happened twice that I had an orgasm. I didn’t expect it. I was holding back, and it just happened.
CAV: Which movie? Are you embarrassed? YOU’RE BLUSHING! It embarrasses you, doesn’t it?
LAURIEN: Ahh… yeah. (giggles)
CAV: Were you embarrassed when you saw that scene in the movie?
LAURIEN: No…
CAV: Have you ever watched yourself in the mirror at home?
LAURIEN: No…
CAV: I suppose that would have been the first time that you actually saw what your orgasm looked like.
LAURIEN: True…
CAV: Was it interesting? I will tell you why I am asking you these questions. The guys who watch these movies are anxious to know when it is real.
LAURIEN:: I can’t really tell. I can’t be really objective. But I do know that it has happened.
CAV: Well, what should we watch for?
LAURIEN: I throw my head back and I scream a lot! I am very vocal.
CAV: With words or noises?
LAURIEN: Noises.
CAV: Do you talk dirty?
LAURIEN: No, I’ve never been able to do that successfully.
CAV: So, you are also an artist? What kind of work do you do?
LAURIEN: I’m a surrealistic painter. Science fiction fantasy.
CAV: Do you do greeting cards, commercial art, comic books, or mostly canvases?
LAURIEN: Well, I don’t do comic books, that’s for sure. I do canvases. I used to have my things in a gallery. But mostly, I work on commission. I could sell more if I was a little more enthusiastic about it. I have to prepare some more. I go off and on with it.
CAV: Do you ever do erotic art?
LAURIEN: Yes, mostly women.
CAV: Why mostly women?
LAURIEN: I have a problem with the male figure. They always end up looking androgynous.
CAV: Do you think that has anything to do with your going out with homosexuals?
LAURIEN: I really don’t think so…
CAV: What do you see yourself doing in the future?
LAURIEN: I would like to start my own film company within the next 5 years.
CAV: What kind of movies? Legitimate? R-rated? X-rated?
LAURIEN: My goal is to blend the R and the X. They’re already almost there. The R is getting closer to the X. Unfortunately, the X is not getting closer to the R. I’d like to see that.
CAV: Do you have any projects in mind?
LAURIEN: Well, I’m interested in the combination of romance and science fiction. I haven’t written the script yet, but I’ve got a few ideas. I would like to change the tone of eroticism, eliminate things that I know don’t work any more like “in and out” shots, “gynecological” shots, and “come” shots.
CAV: I think that “come” shots are necessary.
LAURIEN: Perhaps, but you don’t need so many. They don’t seem to be absolutely necessary, I feel.
CAV: Have you ever seen a porn film that you liked?
LAURIEN: I liked Ecstasy Girls and Hard Soap very much. But I really haven’t seen that many that were made well, enough.
CAV: Have you ever been turned on by a porno film?
LAURIEN: The only one I’ve been turned on by was a gay movie. It was a fantasy. I can’t remember the name, but it was very surrealistic.
CAV: Now that is interesting that it was the only film that turned you on…
LAURIEN: I liked the artwork. I really like anything that is made well. That’s why I want to start my own company. So that I can change the focus in films.
